Toshiba's SD2805 DVD changer offers a wide range of treats, like all-disc random play, play exchange (so you can load multiple discs while one is playing), and high-quality ColorStream component-video outputs compatible with many current televisions. The SD2805 delivers the conveniences we've come to expect from name-brand DVD players--like Dolby Digital and DTS surround output, MP3/CD-R/CD-RW playback, and composite-video and S-video outputs--as well as bonuses like high-quality analog-audio outputs, good MP3 navigation, and the convenient top-menu feature, which zips you past the FBI warnings, previews, and other pre-menu annoyances written into many commercial DVDs. The unit's parallel video output lets you hook different outputs up to different televisions to enjoy simultaneous playback in several rooms. A bookmark feature provides quick access to up to nine favorite scenes (disc in play only), and 3-D Virtual Surround Sound simulates a surround sound effect from stereo sources. Picture zoom, with 2x to 6x magnification, is handy for watching a widescreen disc in something approximating full-screen format.
If you have a surround receiver capable of receiving a 96 kHz digital input, the SD2805 can be set to output a full 24-bit, 96 kHz audio signal, whereas most players convert down to 48 kHz at the digital output. With MP3 CDs, the onscreen display shows just enough of a track's title information to reveal what the artists and songs are. Direct track selection is inactive for MP3 discs (use the menu-navigation buttons to select tracks), but repeat and track-programming work just fine. Direct-track access is lightning quick on audio CDs.
Picture quality is excellent, if nothing out of the ordinary for players in this price range. The machine's only real drawback is one common to multidisc changers: it's a little slow when changing discs. And because there's no direct-disc access from the remote, you must hit 'disc skip' repeatedly to go from disc one to disc five. But for patient souls seeking a great and affordable combination of features and quality, the SD2805 is an ideal choice.

This Toshiba unit has more tricks up its sleeve than most users will ever need, and many you're likely to ever know about unless you study the manual closely. Suffice it to say it will play virtually any format CD or North American DVD you throw at it with considerable aplomb. While I have not found any real need for a DVD changer just yet, its CD changer makes this unit great for handling all the music at your next party. Its DVD features zoom magnification of any point in any image, and its digital processing allows for nearly perfect freeze frame or zoom. Audio outputs are plentiful, as are video hook up options.
The remote is fairly well laid out and the menus are logical. This is a great all-purpose player at a great price.
