This adapter is functional, saves batteries, is easy to use, and enables continued use of backlight. That's simple, but you will now have another wire coming and going. Do you use your 12v power receptacle for other things? Charge your cell phone? Keep a small 12v refrigerator going? Have it hooked into an inverter to charge your computer? Run a 12v TV? Or run a GameBoy Advance? It seems more and more media need access to the 12v receptacle in your dashboard. Perhaps we need a car that has a 12v bank of 2-4 receptacles, somewhat like an AC power strip with 4-6 outlets. Or maybe more duel sets of 12v receptacles strategically placed around the vehicle to accommodate our media needs.
In the meantime, I'm glad I have the adapter. When I have other media connected while traveling with my family, we use a 12v 3-Outlet Car Power Adapter.... And yes, wires are all over the place.
