This affordable 20-inch set uses a pure-flat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared with a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture--partly owing to the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light, but also due to the set's scan-velocity modulation. Scan-velocity modulation improves definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.
The Q2049J's digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl. A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing a brighter, clearer picture.
The set gives you stereo audio (backed by 1.5 watts per channel) from broadcast programming. A component-video input grants an optimal connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite-video and S-video inputs accommodate other devices. A set of rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs simplify hookups. A rear AV output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver, and a stereo headphone jack affords private listening. The set also has a trilingual onscreen display, closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep/wake-up timer (30-60-90-120 minutes), and a universal remote control.

For a company that makes only two models of tv (20' & 27') this is a very good TV. I have been using it for over a week now and I have had no problems. The picture looks great, and even better when you connect your dvd player to the componet video inputs. The remote isn't the best I've seen, but it gets the job done. I look forward to also buying the 27' version, very soon. Great job Jensen!!
