Editorial Reviews :
When you've had your dinner interrupted by a telemarketer one too many times, treat your phone line and yourself to the Telezapper TZ 900. It's a simple, one-time-cost solution to the problem of annoying telemarketing calls. Based on the enormously popular Telezapper, the Telezapper TZ 900 offers the advantages of a slimmer profile, built-in battery power, and an advanced three-tone mode.
Here's how it works: Given that more than 90 percent of telemarketing calls are placed with computer assistance, when either you or your answering machine answers the phone, the Telezapper emits a special tone that tells the computer your number has been permanently disconnected. Telemarketing companies that use automated dialing systems typically remove disconnected numbers from their calling lists, and as your phone number is eliminated from more and more telemarketing lists, you'll notice fewer calls. Of course, not all telemarketers use predictive dialing systems, and those that do will undoubtedly continue their work to evade the Telezapper, but it can be a partial solution.

Most predictive dialing systems will be fooled by the Telezapper's standard single tone. However, for newer dialing systems (presumably designed in response to the success of the previous Telezapper model), the TZ 900 offers an advance three-tone mode. To change the mode, unscrew and remove the protective case and then slide a recessed switch. (We suggest that Privacy Technologies put the switch on the outside for their next model.)

For the most part, regular callers are unaffected by the Telezapper, but it may 'zap' calls from other organizations that use the same predictive dialing technology (such as charities, pollsters, and automated emergency weather systems) and from callers who use certain types of calling cards. (For more information, click FAQ, or frequently asked questions, in the left navigation bar.)

Installation takes seconds. Just plug the Telezapper into your phone line and your phone into the Telezapper. It's that simple. A built-in lithium-ion battery provides power and will likely last for the lifetime of the unit. The Telezapper includes a phone cord and instructions. Privacy Technologies backs the device with a one-year warranty.

Inexpensive, one-time-cost solution

Buyer Reviews :
The 'TeleZapper' is a little device that will eliminate computer-dialed telemarketing calls. I bought this item since I was receiving over 3 telemarketing calls per day, selling everything from credit cards to prescription drugs (it that legal?). My purchase of the TeleZapper was out of rage, when I got one abrasive telemarketer too many.

For the first while, it helped eliminate some of the telemarketing calls, but not all of them. It only phases out calls made by a predictive dialer, not manually dialed or more advanced computer-dialed calls. Though some still did get through, it cut down signifigantly the number of calls I was getting. In terms of installation, it was pretty easy. The instructions are strait-forward enough.

But after the first while, I got very annoyed with it. Often, I would pick up the phone and nobody would be there. You are basically trading one inconvenience for another: a telemarketer vs. dead air. Both are annoying when they come at a bad time. The other drawback is that it can block out important calls. Once, my credit card company called to tell me that my bill payment did not go through, but it got 'zapped'. Since they though my number was not in service, it landed me in some hot water, for a short while. The 'beep' you get when you pick up the phone is a small annoyance.

Overall, I think the TeleZapper was not worth the hefty price I paid for it. One way or another, I will rush to the phone to answer either a telemarketer or a dead air call. I would rather have saved my money and simply said 'Take me off your calling lists'. At least if I said that, the company would be legally obligated not to call me back. With the TeleZapper, what is to stop them from putting your number on another list? Who would I recommend it to? People who get excessive amounts of annoying telemarketing calls. But be warned, if you are expecting it to get rid of all annoying calls, you might be disappointed.
