The Verto MX400 features nVidia's Geforce 2-MX400 GPU, the latest nVidia 256 bit graphics chip based on the GeForce2 GTS technology. With 64 MB of RAM, the Verto MX400 can display up to 25 million triangles per second, giving you smooth, intense 3-D and 2-D imaging. The board also supports DVD playback, eliminating the need for an extra card. To keep your card at peak performance, nVidia continuously supports its products with updates of its renowned Detonator drivers (free to download from its Web site), ensuring that this card will meet your gaming and business needs well into the future.
Buyer Reviews : If you have an older computer with an integrated (on-board) graphics board and find that you can no longer play the latest games then you need to upgrade your graphics card.
I have a brand new system at home and took my older computer with me on the road. I meant to use it for a few spreadsheet needs but ended up upgrading it quite a bit and now I am really glad I did.
Started with:
Compaq Presario AMD-K2 380mhz with 64mb and a 4mb (shared) on-board graphics card powering a 14' monitor that was ten years old.
I upgraded to this card, a 17' monitor plus 384mb of RAM and a software upgrade to Windows XP and it's like having a brand new computer.
I've tried it with a few games and it works great. Using the 'fish' screen saver at serenescene.com I am registering 60fps when I used to get 15!
Most important thing to do before installing this card:
Disable your onboard graphics card. How? Simply right click on the background of your desktop, select properties, and then settings. Now select the ADVANCED button and select the graphics adapter tab.
Choose properties and then select DISABLE.
It will ask you to re-start your computer, so do it.
When it boots back up, close it all back down, power down and install the card (note the PCI slot and how it matches the gold teeth on the new graphics card you have). Don't force it too hard, but be firm.
Move your monitor over to the new graphics card and restart your computer.
Soon you will need the driver disk loaded in the cd-rom drive and you will be finished when they are loaded.
It took me about 15 minutes and I was up and playing games in no time at all.
Now for the bad news:
You have a computer with a PCI slot and no AGP slot. PCI slots are really slow compared to AGP so anytime you compare your numbers with someone with an AGP slot (and maybe an inferior card) they may have better numbers.
Also, there will soon be games on the market that will simply run to slow on an older computer, however updated your machine is. If you really need to be on the bleeding edge then I suggest getting a whole new machine.
But, if you simply want to breath some new life into your old machine, buying this card and installing it will transform your machine into a new computer capable of playing any game on the market right now.
Works well with Windows XP, although XP will warn you during installation that these drivers are untested with XP.
Well worth the money!
